Our vision of a sustainable future means we will take steps to reduce, reuse and recycle our resources in order to protect our world for future generations. We are sensitive to environmental issues and have made changes at our stores and offices as part of our long-term commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability.
To become a more environmentally-friendly, “greener” company, we created a Recycling Committee and have identified Recycling Champions for each of our stores locations. The Champions are employee volunteers that are passionate about being good stewards of our planet. It is their responsibility to oversee and implement our recycling program at each location. This recycling program, begun in 2010, has had an overwhelming success so far.
In Our Supermarkets and Office:
- 40.5 tons recycled through single-stream collection (this consists of office paper, newsprint, aluminum, metal cans and plastics)
- Grocery T-sacs were collected and recycled
- 550 tons of cardboard were baled and recycled
- Waste cooking oil is collected and reused as truck fuel
In Our Garden Centers:
- 95 tons recycled through single stream collection
- 40 tons of cardboard
- 2500 cubic feet of horticultural plastics were recycled (this consists of plastic pots and plant flats)
As our company learns new ways to lessen the environmental impact, we’ll share our discoveries with you. Together we can make a difference.

Awarded PPL Energy-Smart Business Honor Roll for demonstrating the kind of awareness and commitment that will lead our communities to better energy and environmental practices.
