2011 Plant Prescription for Diagnosis: Fall Webworm

Prescription: Cut small webbed nests out of tree in during June and July. Try to open the larger webs so predators can control them. Apply insecticide when larvae are small, covering the web and leaves next to the nest. A powerful force of insecticide is needed to break the web. A second application is needed for additional generations

(Aug-Oct). The insecticide will kill the webworm, but the webbing must be removed or wear off. Spray with:.

Insecticidal soap (Concern Insect Killing Soap)

Horticultural oil (All Seasons or Volck Oil)

Bt-Bacillus thuringiensis (Thuricide) – Spray only in evenings, when less than 1/2” long

Pyrethrin (Earthtone Insect Control)

Permethrin (Bonide Borer-Miner Killer Concentrate)

Bifenthrin (Ortho BugBGon MAX Lawn & Garden Insect Killer Conc.)

Carbaryl (Sevin)

Maxide Insect Killer

Mix according to label directions and apply only the recommended dosage. Apply material only to plants specified on the label
