Kim’s Veggie Garden 2014 Week 8: Salad for Everyone!
What I do to harvest lettuce is use a pair of scissors and cut the leaf. Most of the time I’ve experienced loose leaf lettuce is a eat once and done plant. It typically “bolts” or “flowers” and then is bitter.
There’s not much else to report on the carrots, onions or Brussels sprouts. I’m not 100% sure when I should thin out the carrots but I’m thinking it’s pretty soon. I forgot to snap a pic of that. Onions look good but I am concerened about the sprouts. We’ve been taking turns ripping off any yellow old leaves from the bottom of the green stalks so that all of the plant’s energy goes into make a sprout. However, I ain’t seen nothin’ yet…ba-ba-ba baby here’s something you’ll never forget! …I digress… If it gets too warm, the sprouts might just do nothing. And that would be a big bummer since I tried to grow them in fall with no success.
Other things that are looking amazing in my yard include my herb containers and some Miss Kim lilacs about ready to bloom.
The peppers, broccoli and tomatoes are both flowering and producing.
And I’m patiently waiting for changes in the random jalapeno root I stuffed into a mason jar of water 2 weeks ago.
And those potatoes are popping out, so it looks like this Potato Box concept might actually work this year.
Are you cooking up anything from your garden just yet?
