Bidens
General Information: Bidens has become one of the best, if not the best, yellow flowering plants for baskets and beds. ‘Goldie’ is more compact and bushy and exhibits vigorous growth habit. It is heat tolerant and has the bright yellow flowers that Bidens have come to be known for. It is great to mix in hanging baskets. See companion plants below.
Planting: Bidens should be planted in full sun areas in baskets, tubs, window boxes or beds. Well-drained, organic soils are best. Maximum height is 4-6”. Plants are easy to grow and will spread to a diameter of 12-14”.
Watering: Keep slightly dry until plant is well established. ‘Goldie’ is very heat-tolerant. Water thoroughly when slightly dry. Water daily during hot summer days.
Fertilizer: Fertilize weekly in July and August with a high nitrogen fertilizer. Periodically supplement with iron if plant vigor is slow or if veins on green leaves turn yellow.
Pruning: ‘Goldie’ is not an invasive plant, but minor trimming may be necessary. Pruning or cutting back is not necessary to maintain flowering.
